Key sectors with opportunities for infrastructure development in Rwanda

On 12 February 2021, the High Commission of Rwanda in India joined stakeholders from Indian and Rwandan companies in a Webinar organised by EXIM Bank India to discuss key opportunities for infrastructure development in Rwanda. Key speakers at the webinar included the High Commissioner of India in Rwanda and various officials from the Government of Rwanda and the Government of India.

In his remarks, Mr. N. Ramesh, Deputy Managing Director at the Exim Bank, informed the participants that the Exim Bank has been playing a significant role in enabling various infrastructure projects relating to electricity generation and irrigation in Rwanda.

The Head of Investment Marketing Department at Rwanda Development Board, Philip Lucky, highlighted that infrastructure remains one of key priority sector with incentives up to seven (7) years tax holidays.

"Key major sectors with opportunities for developing infrastructure in Rwanda include housing, water and sanitation, electricity generation and transport infrastructure." said the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Government of Rwanda.

The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Health added that, Rwanda needs to develop hospitals and centres of excellence most importantly for modern services and non-communicable diseases.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Oscar Kerketta, the High Commissioner of India to Rwanda, invited Indian companies to expand their investments to Rwanda particularly in modern health facilities and aviation infrastructure.
